HOW TO DETECT T-CON BOARD FAULTS WITH LCD TV

T'Con board [Timing Control Board] is one which controls the on screen pixesl of an LCD TV.  It connects LCD panel to digital Processor section at the main board.  This board will be ussually fitted to dispaly panel of an LCD tv.  In most cases, it will be shelded with a metalic shield to prevent interference. Thee boards can be defectvie irrespecive of Brand and Model.  A defectve T'con board can cause, very dark picture, vertical lines either with entire screen or will be displayed partially, improper color reproduction etc:- The first to check is its connections.  These baords are connected with flat cables.  No solder joints.  They are connected to small sockets either side, and will be locked.  The lock can be released.  Release the lock, and reinsert it.  In most cases, loose contact or improper connection to these wires can cause several display problems.  Picture of T'con boards are attached.

These boards can be purchased either from the authorised service center  for thos company, of from electronic spare part selling shops at your town.  It may cost around $35 to $70.  See the clat wire connecting sockets. In most boards, there will be three such connectors.
Lift up the black flat lock.  The flat connecing wire will come very easly out.  Check the connecing contacts fo the wire for any dirt. If is, clean it with a smoot cotton cloth dipped in rectified spirit.  Drey it well.  Reconnect it back in to position.  If this do not help you, make sure that the board is faulty.
If the board is faulty [shorted digital processor IC], the large IC on it will over heat.
With some sets, the picture will be perfect for some time, say 20 minutes or so, and will go blurred.  If so, check the contact between the main digital IC to its heat sink.  The IC will heat up to an extent, and to radiate heat away from it, it will be fixed to a metal heatsing [or to the panel chasis  itself], after applying some heatsink compund over the IC.  When replacing this board, make sure that this heatsink compound has applied.  This compound can be bought from most of the electronic spare part shops.

PANASONIC PLASMA TV BLINKING CODES

Panasonic Plasma TVs have built in fault diagnosing circuit.  If any fault occur with any circuit board inside, the loaded firmware will detect it, and will give you its idication in the form or standby light blinks. From the number of blinks at one time, expereinced service  technicians can detect the faulty section [circuit board], without opening the TV.  This will help technicans to detect and repair faulty section fast.

Here are some hints about the number of blinks to Pansonic Plasma TVs.

HOW TO CHECK A "MOSFET"

"MOSFET" stands for [Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect TRansistor].  It is nothing but a transistor.  It is a semiconductor made of manufactured matereial that acts neither like a colductor or an insulator.MOSFET is a common type of transistor in which charge carriers, such as electrons flow along channels.  The conduction angle depends on the width of the channel. An insulation keeps current from flowing the Gate and the Channel.
See the structure and symbol used in schematics.

From the symbol you can see a MOSFET has three leads.  G=Gate, S=source & D=Drain.
There is a zener diode integrated in between source and Drain.  The most common failure to MOSFETs are by the shortage of this zener diode internally, which will show a very low resistance between source and Drain leads, in both direction.
How to check a MOSFET.
An Ohmmeter is connected between Drain and Source which should be very high, if the transisor has no leak between Source and Drain.  Connect an other Ohmmeter between Gate and Source. The Ohmmeter should be set to measure Megaohms. Now the test voltage comes from the meter [about 5VDC], when connected proper polarity, must turn the MOSFET 'ON". This ON possition will be indicated by the first Ohmmeter, which will measure low Ohm value.  It must show almost zero Ohms resistance.  To turn the transistor OFF, you have to reverse the Gate-Source voltage.  The Ohm-meter connected to Drain-Source must now measure very high resistance.
This is the common check procedure, and it is very like testing an oridinary transistor.  See some physical sturcture of MOSFETs.

There are mainly tow types  P-Channel MOSFET and N-Channel MOSFET.  We can determine the type used by the schematic diagram.  See the two types of them as schematic symbol.
