TAPE DECK SECTION
The sequence during the ageing mode is following as below.  If an error occurred, stop display that step.

CD REPEAT 5 LIMIT OFF MODE
Number of repeat for CD playback is 5 times when the repeat mode is “REPEAT”. This mode enables CD to repeat playback for limitless times.
Procedure:
  • Press the [POWER] button to turn the power on, and press the [CD] button to select the function “CD”.
  • Press three buttons of [STOP], [REPEAT], and [CD]simultaneously to enter the CD repeat 5 limit off mode and display “REPEAT OFF”.
  • To release this mode, operate the cold reset. (Refer to the “MC COLD RESET”)
CD SHIP MODE (MEMORY CLEAR)
This mode moves the optical pick-up to the position durable to vibration. Use this mode when returning the set to the customer after repair.
Procedure:
  • Set to the standby state.
  • Press three buttons [STOP], [ENTER] and [GAME] simultaneously.
  • After the “STANDBY” display blinks, a message “LOCK” is displayed on the fluorescent indicator tube, and the CD ship mode is set.
CD SHIP MODE (NO MEMORY CLEAR)
This mode moves the optical pick-up to the position durable to vibration. Use this mode when returning the set to the customer after repair.
Procedure:
  • Set to the standby state.
  • Press the [CD] and [POWER] buttons simultaneously.
  • After the “STANDBY” display blinks, a message “LOCK” is displayed on the fluorescent indicator tube, and the CD ship mode is set.

GC TEST MODE
This mode is used to check the fluorescent indicator tube, LED, model, destination software version, volume, key and VACS level.
  • Press three button[STOP], [ENTER], and [DISC 2] simultaneously.
  • LEDs and fluorescent indicator tube are all turned on.
  • When you want to enter the software version display mode, press [DISC 1]. The model and destination are displayed.
  • Each time [DISC 1] is pressed, the display changes starting from MC version, GC version, CD version, CDDM version, CDMA version, CDMB version, BDA version, BDB version, ST version, TA version, TM version and TC version in this order, and returns to the MC version display.
  • When [DISC 3] is pressed while the version numbers are being displayed except model and destination, year, month and day of the software creation appear. When [DISC 3] is pressed again, the display returns to the software version display. When [DISC 1] is pressed while year, month and day of the software creation are being displayed, the year, month and day of creation of the software versions are displayed in the same order of version display.
  • Press [DISC 2] button, and the key check mode is activated.
  • In the key check mode, the fluorescent indicator tube displays “K0V0”. Each time a button is pressed, “K” value increases.  However, once a button is pressed, it is no longer taken into account.
  • “V” value increases like 1, 2, 3 ... if rotating [VOLUME] knob in “+” direction, or it decreases like 0, 9, 8 ... if rotating in “–” direction. 
  • Also when [DISC 3]is pressed after lighting of all LEDs and fluorescent indicator tubes, value of VACS level appears.  9. To release this mode, press three buttons in the same manner as step 1, or disconnect the power cord.
MC TEST MODE
To enter MC Test Mode
  • Press three buttons of [STOP], [ENTER]and [DISC 3]simultaneously.
  • The messages MUSIC, MOVIE, GAME and P FILE flash on the fluorescent indicator tube.  The input FUNCTION is changed to VIDEO.
Check of Amplifier
  1. When button is pressed, GEQ increases to its maximum and a message “GEQ MAX” appears.
  2. When button is pressed, GEQ decreases to its minimum and a message “GEQ MIN” appears.
  3. When ◄/► button is pressed, GEQ is set to flat and a message “GEQ FLAT” appears.
  4. When the [VOLUME] knob is turned clockwise even slightly, the sound volume increases to its maximum and a message “VOLUME MAX” appears for two seconds, then the display returns to the original display.
  5. When the [VOLUME] knob is turned counter-clockwise even slightly, the sound volume decreases to its minimum and a message “VOLUME MIN” appears for two seconds, then the display returns to the original display.
Check of clock frequency
  • To check the frequency of clock used to run the time in the unit, the clock output is available at IC501 pin 38 (CLOCK-OUT) on the MAIN board only during MC test mode.
  • The frequency is 32.768 kHz or so.
Tape function
  • When a tape is inserted in tape deck B and recording is started, the input source function selects VIDEO automatically.  When [CD SYNC HI-DUB]button is pressed during recording in function, ALC is turned on.
  • When [STOP] button is pressed to stop recording, the tape deck B is selected and tape is rewound, tape is rewound using - ◄◄ button, tape is stops at around the record-starting position and playback of the recorded portion of the tape is started. If the [REC PAUSE/START] button is pressed for a pause and pressed again to resume recording, when tape deck B is rewound, tape deck B will be rewound until the position where the pause is applied.
  • When [CD SYNC HI-DUB] button is pressed during playback of tape deck B, either normal speed or high speed can be selected by this button.
CD SERVICE MODE
This mode can run the CD sled motor freely. Use this mode, for instance, when cleaning the optical pick-up.
Procedure:
  1. Press [POWER] button to turn the set ON.
  2. Select the function “CD”.
  3. Press three buttons [STOP], [ENTER], and [OPEN/CLOSE]simultaneously.
  4. The CD service mode is selected.
  5. With the CD in stop status, press ►►+ button to move the optical pick-up to outside track, or press – ◄◄ button to inside track.
  6. To release this mode, press the [POWER] button.

TO ENTER SERVICE MODE

HOW TO CHECK OPERATING TIME
This model has a function to count and record the LCD panel operating time. The operating time can be checked in the following procedure.
Maximum count time = 131072 hours
  • Press the [DISPLAY] key and [MUTING] key simultaneously, then enter the SERVICE MODE.
  • When the Main Menu is displayed, press [2] key to enter the self-check mode.
  • The operating time of the LCD panel is displayed in 6 digit decimal number.
# When the power is turned off with the remote control unit or the power button of the main unit, the count restarts from the turn off time.
# When disconnecting the power cord from the AC outlet turns off the power, the recorded time count less than 2 hours is not counted.
# When the operating time exceeds the maximum count time, "MAX" is displayed to the right of the counted time, and the following count is discontinued.

  • Press the  [DISPLAY] key and  [MUTING] key simultaneously, then enter the SERVICE MODE.
  • When the Main Menu is displayed, press [2] key to enter the self-check mode.
  • When the self check screen is displayed, press [ZOOM] key to reset the operating time.
NOTE:  • When the LCD PANEL UNIT is replaced, be sure to reset the operating time following the above method. • Cannot reset Total operating time.
DISPLAY FAULTS
PIXEL FAULT
There are three pixel faults - bright fault, dark fault and flicker fault - that are respectively defined as follows.
BRIGHT FAULT
In this pixel fault, a cell that should not light originally is lighting on and off.  For checking this pixel fault, input ALL BLACK SCREEN and find out the cell that is lighting on and off.
DARK FAULT
In this pixel fault, a cell that should light originally is not lighting or lighting with the brightness twice as brighter as originally lighting.  For checking this pixel fault, input 100% of each R/G/B color and find out the cell that is not lighting.
FLICKER FAULT
In the pixel fault, a cell that should light originally or not light originally is flashing on and off.  For checking this pixel fault, input ALL BLACK SCREEN signal or 100% of each RGB color and find out the cell that is flashing on and off.
MEMORY IC REPLACEMENT
  • This model uses the memory IC.
  • This memory IC stores data for proper operation of the video and drive circuits.
  • When replacing, be sure to use an IC containing this (initial value) data.
MEMORY IC REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
  • POWER OFF:  Switch off the power and disconnect the power plug from the AC outlet.
  • REPLACE THE MEMORY IC:  Be sure to use the memory IC written with the initial setting values.
  • POWER ON:  Connect the power plug to the AC outlet and switch on the power.
SERVICE MODE SETTING [SYSTEM CONSTANT SETTING]
  • Press the  [DISPLAY] key and  [MUTING] key simultaneously, then enter the SERVICE MODE.
  • Press the [8] key, then enter the SYSTEM CONSTANT SET SCREEN.
  • Check the setting values of the SYSTEM CONSTANT SET. If the value is different, set the correct value with the [FUNCTION /] key.
RECEIVING CHANNEL SETTING
Refer to the OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS and set the receive channels (Channels Preset) as described.
USER SETTING
Check the user setting items according to the given in page later. Where these do not agree, refer to the OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS and set the items as described.
SERVICE MODE SETTING [ADJUST MODE SETTING]: Verify what to set in the SERVICE MODE, and set whatever is necessary. Refer to the SERVICE ADJUSTMENT for setting.
SERVICE MODE SCREEN
ADJUSTMENT MODE
When the SERVICE MENU SCREEN of SERVICE MODE is displayed, press [1] key to enter the ADJUSTMENT MODE.
NOTE:   * When a number key other than the [1] key is pressed in the SERVICE MODE SCREEN, the other relevant screen may be displayed.
* This is not used in the adjustment procedure. Press the [MENU] key to return to the SERVICE MODE SCREEN.
VSM PRESET MODE
This mode is used to adjust the VSM.
HOW TO ENTER THE VSM PRESET MODE
  • When the SERVICE MENU SCREEN of SERVICE MODE is displayed, press [6] key to enter the VSM PRESET MODE.
INITIAL SETTING VALUES
  • Perform fine-tuning based on the "initial values" using the remote control when in the Service mode.
  • The "initial values" serve only as an indication rough standard and therefore the values with which optimal display can be achieved may be different from the default values.
  • [S004] to [S009] are the off set values.
SELF CHECK FEATURE
HOW TO ENTER THE SELF-CHECK MODE
  • Press the  [DISPLAY] key and  [MUTING] key simultaneously, then enter the SERVICE MODE.
  • Press the [2] key then enter the SELF CHECK MODE.
NOTE:
When a number key other than the [2] key is pressed in the SERVICE MODE screen, the other relevant screen may be displayed.  This is not used in the SELF CHECK MODE. Press the [MENU] key to return to the MAIN MENU SCREEN.
HOW TO EXIT THE SELF-CHECK MODE
  • To Save Failure History:

Turn off the power by unplugging the AC power cord plug when in the Self-check display mode.
  • To Clear (Reset) Failure History:
Turn off the power by pressing the [POWER] key on the remote control unit when in the Self-check display mode.
FAILURE HISTORY
  • Failure history can be counted up to 9 times for each item. When the number exceeds 9, display will remain as 9. Failure history will be stored in the memory unless it has been deleted.
NOTE: Only SYNC (with/without sync signals) will be neither counted nor stored.
POINTS TO NOTE WHEN USING THE SELF CHECK FEATURE
  • In addition to circuit failures (abnormal operation), the following cases may also be diagnosed as "Abnormal" and counted.
  • Temporary defective transmissions across circuits due to pulse interruptions.
  • Misalignment in the on/off timing of power for I2C bus (Vcc) when turning on/off the main power.   Therefore, turn on the main power, and then wait for about 3 seconds before starting Self-check. If recurrences are expected, ensure to clear (reset) the failure history and record the new diagnosis results.
SELF CHECK - DETAILS
If error is detected, the power is turned off. Shortly after the power is turned off, POWER LED will be blinked.  When the protection of low bias line short operates, the power cannot be turned on until the power cord takes out and inserts, after the power is turned off.
