HOW TO RESET LG BP740 BLU-RAY DISC PLAYER - NETWORK 3D BLU-RAY DISC / DVD PLAYER SA RESET FUNCTION & LD CHECK
SA RESET FUNCTION 
> In order to insert the new SA adjustment values, it needs clearing SA initial values of the flash memory.
> Power on the set (then, mode is in home menu).
> Press Settings.
> Under DISPLAY highlighted condition, press 5’ > ‘1’ > ‘7’ > ‘7’ > ‘7’ > ‘7’ > ‘7’> ‘Enter’ on the remote controller to display special mode. Move to [3]SA/IOP Reset and click.
> Insert BD-ROM SL disc.  (Tray is opened automatically.)
> If the disc is inserted, you will see “Wait...”.
> If SA Adjustment is finished, you will see “PASS” and tray is opened automatically.
> Press stop key twice to escape this special mode.
LD CHECK
> If LD (Laser Diode) have problem, disc reading problem can happen.  So this option can check LD status.
> Power on the set (then, mode is in home menu).
> Press Setup
> Under DISPLAY highlighted condition, press ‘5’ > ‘1’ > ‘7’ > ‘7’ > ‘7’ > ‘7’ > ‘7’ > Enter on the remote controller to display special mode.
> Move to the [1] Laser Check and click.
> Check result is shown automatically.  If you will see “PASS”, BD/DVD/CD LD status is OK.

SERVICE MODE
Entering the Factory Service mode 
Turn the instrument OFF. 
Then press the Vol - button on the remote and Vol - on the keypad simultaneously. 
Hold the buttons for approximately 10 seconds until the instrument turns ON. 
Using the remote if you want to select an item, press the ▲▼ buttons. Adjust the setting value using the ◄►  key.
Press the Clear button to return to the main menu after adjusting a value.
Press the Clear button or select Go Back the menu to exit the Factory Service mode.
BRIGHTNESS ALIGNMENT
Enter the Factory Service mode.
Select VIDEO from the menu, then select Brightness.
Insert a pluge test pattern thru RF with a 2% setup background with a 0% and 4% bar.
Adjust the Brightness so that the 0% bar is invisible with the 4% bar visible.
Exit the Factory Mode by pressing Clear on the remote.
PEAK WHITE LEVEL ADJUSTMENT
The Peak White alignment must be completed to the following standards.
Enter the Factory Service mode.
Select VIDEO from the menu, then select Peak White.
Input a test pattern with a 100% white centered pad on a dark background.
Using a Color TV Analyzer measure the luminance level (Y[nit]) of the white pad. Adjust with the Scaling Contrast the Light Output Level (PW Level) for 400 Nits + 20%/- 10%.
DEFECTIVE PIXEL SPECIFICATION
A pixel is defined as three elements or dots, one red, one blue, and one green. Thus one bright pixel is three bright adjacent dots. No bright pixels are allowed but 3 bright dots are allowed subject to the following:
The bright dots must be viewable on normal program material (not static test patterns) when viewed at a distance of five feet from a point perpendicular to the center of the screen at eye level. The panel is considered defective if the pixels are viewable and they are within ¼” of another bright dot.
Also, no more than eight dark dots, and no dark pixels will be accepted when viewed under the same conditions.
VIDEO ALIGNMENT
The Cut Off alignment is used to define the color coordinates for low level luminance. The White point is used to define the color coordinates for bright luminance This alignment must be completed using Line Input (CVBS).
1. Enter the Factory Service mode.
2. Select VIDEO from the menu, and then select Normal from the Color Temperature sub-menu.
NOTE: It is only necessary to perform the Cut Off and White Point Alignments with the Color Temperature set to the Normal position. The values for Cool and Warm are interpolated based on the Normal settings.
3. Insert a grey test pattern with a 10 to 20 Nits luminance level.
4. Using a Color TV Analyzer measure the coordinates at the center of the screen. Adjust Red Offset, B Offset and Green Offset for x = 0.280 +/- 5%, y = 0.290 +/- 5%
5. Insert a 50IRE (or 150 nits) grey test pattern.
6. Using a Color TV Analyzer measure the coordinates at the center of the screen. Adjust R Gain, G Gain and B Gain for x = 0.280 +/- 5%, y = 0.290 +/- 5%.
NOTE: It may necessary to switch between the Cut Off and White Point Alignments in order to achieve the proper alignment. Exit the Service Menu by press the Clear button on the remote.

POWER SUPPLY BOARD
There are 2 different Power Supply Boards used. The type of board depends on the size of LCD Panel. They are:
GL9 for the 32” models
GL10 for the 42” models
There are 3 distinct sections on the power supply:
Standby Supply: Continuously operational as long as AC power is applied, the standby supply generates 3.3V for the circuits requiring power while the unit is turned off. An unregulated 19V line is present to provide power to the main relay, PFC and main power supply at turn-on.
Main Supply: Once the power supply receives a power-on command from the CPU on the Main Board, the main switching supply is turned on to provide a regulated 12V source and Audio 12V.
Converter: Generates the B+ and B- voltages for the LED back-lights.
LCD PANEL ASSEMBLY
The LCD Panel Assembly includes the LCD Panel, TCON Board and LED Backlight system.
The LCD Panel contains the actual liquid crystals, color filters and polarizer.  The liquid crystals are manipulated by the applied voltage to pass a specific
amount of light - from the backlit - depending on the level of voltage applied.
The TCON performs all the control, timing, charge and discharge functions driving the operation of the LCD Panel.
A new LCD Panel Assembly will include the following items:
LCD Panel
Bezel Assembly (includes H Board)
TCON Board
LED Back-light system.
TCON BOARD
The TCON Board communicates between the LCD Panel and the microprocessor on the Main Board.
NOTE: The TCON Board is not available as a replacement part for all models. 
UPDATING THE SOFTWARE
The Self Diagnosis function is designed to provide information regarding the problem with the TV, however, there are several issues that may be resolved by updating the TV software to the latest version. Always check the Sony Authorized Service Portal at for any issues that are software related. Most symptoms that are correctable by software updates involve communications issues with other devices or minor glitches in the operation of a specific function. Below is a list of some of the symptoms that may be corrected with a software update:
> Fluctuations in picture brightness
> Intermittent picture freezing or noise
> Problems with certain inputs (especially HDMI)
> Intermittent or distorted audio
> Erratic remote control operation
> TV turns on and off by itself
> Loss of color
> Internet connectivity (internet models only)
> Certain features not working correctly (photo or video file viewing)
SELF DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION
Critical voltages and circuit operations are monitored by the CPU on the Main Board. If an error is detected the Self Diagnosis function in the TV will force the TV to shut down by the CPU. The monitored circuit in which the fault occurred will automatically cause the CPU to blink the Standby LED in groups of repeating sequences. The number of times the Standby LED blinks indicates the possible cause of the problem.  Not all of the available protect codes are used in every model. For example, models that don’t have the local dimming feature do not use the 4X blink error as this circuit is found in models that are back-lit with fluorescent lamps.  The information in this section provides guidance in locating the possible component causing the shutdown.
VIEWING THE SELF CHECK DIAGNOSIS HISTORY
When an error is detected, the Self Check screen records the number of times the error occurred. This is helpful in confirming past occurrences of an error, and for determining if an error is intermittent when the customer is not sure what is causing the television to shut down. If the screen displays a “0”, no error has occurred.
> TV must be in Standby mode.
> Press the following buttons on the Remote Commander within a second of each other:
DISPLAY > Channel 5 > Volume +POWER
> To access the Self diagnosis history page, press theuntil Self diagnosis history is highlighted.
> Then press  to view Self Check screen.
LED BLINKING CODE DETAILS
2X Blink  Main Power Error
A loss of REG12V from the power supply triggers this protect event. The usual cause is a failure of the main switching supply. In some instances, excessive loading on the secondary supply lines can cause the switching regulator to stop, or fail again, if a replacement board is installed.
3X Blink DC Regulator/Audio Error
The REG 5V and D3.3V source originating on the Main Board is monitored for low-voltage conditions by the CPU. A failure causing a 3X shutdown requires replacing the Main Board.
4X Blink  Balancer Error
NOT USED IN THIS MODEL SERIES.
5X Blink  TCON Error/Panel Error
The 5X blink protection mode indicates a communications error with the timing control circuits (TCON Board) has occurred. If the TCON Board is available for replacement, replace it, if not, replace the LCD Panel Assembly. In rare cases a loose or defective LVDS cable could also be the cause.
6X Blink  Back-light Converter System Failure
If the converter circuits fails to generate high voltage or one or more of the backlight fails to light, the television will shut down and display this diagnostics error.
7X Blink  Temperature Failure
A digital thermometer IC located on the Main Board provides a temperature reading of the chassis and LCD Panel. If the temperature exceeds a predetermined point the TV will shut down. If this problem occurs immediately at turn-on, the temperature sensing IC has failed and replacing the Main
Board is required. If this occurs after the TV has been running for a while, check for ventilation issues that could cause the TV to run hotter than normal.
SOFTWARE UPDATES FOR CUSTOMERS
The subject of software updates is very important. The televisions of today have advanced to the point where they are not simply a television anymore.
They are evolving into devices that are designed to integrate with numerous other devices found in the home. Some examples are: portable audio and video devices, still cameras, home computer networks and accessing the internet to name a few.  Communications with these varying devices requires that the television be compatible with varying communications protocols. Although standards are detailed for each of these protocols, the real world dictates that
occasional errors may occur that could prevent devices from operating or communicating properly.  Keeping the software in the television up-to-date is a procedure that is normally handled by the owner of the television. Most customers who own computers and other digital devices are familiar with and are accustomed to updating the software in their products. If a customer contacts the Sony Customer Support Center and it is deemed to be correctable with a software update, the issue is handled at the customer level.  Software updates can be performed by:
Customer Manual Downloads
Software updates can be accessed by the customer from the Sony Support Site where they can be downloaded and placed on a USB thumb drive to be loaded onto the TV. The instructions for downloading the software file vary from chassis to chassis and sometimes from model to model. The customer is provided with the instructions to properly format the USB thumb drive, unzip the file, and the procedures for loading the software into the television.
SOFTWARE UPDATES FOR SERVICES
Replacement Main Boards are now stocked with basic software. Once the replacement board is installed in the TV, the most current software needs to be installed using a USB thumb drive containing the necessary software.  This new method of supplying Main Boards significantly reduces the complexity of replacing the Main Boards. Information about the LCD panel is stored on the TCON circuits. This information is automatically loaded onto the Main Board when the TV is powered up. With the correct software version the Main Board and/or the TCON can be replaced more efficiently. The software update and procedures for the software installation are located on the Sony Authorized Service Portal.
CHECKING THE SOFTWARE VERSION
The easiest way to check the version of software that is currently on the TV is to access the Contact Sony screen by using the customer menu.

The primary circuits in the AZ3FK chassis consist of a Main Board (A Board), Power Supply Board (GL9 for the 32” models and GL10 for the 42” models), the LCD Panel Assembly includes the Bezel Assembly, the IR Board (H Board) and the TCON Board.
DISASSEMBLE PROCEDURE
> Gently place the TV face down onto a soft cloth and remove 3 screws from the bottom of Table-Top Stand.
> To avoid damaging the AC Power Supply Cord, remove the screw from the AC Cover and disconnect the AC Power Cord.
> Remove the remaining 14 screws from the Rear Cover.
> Gently hold down the Rear Cover from the center, and then carefully lift the Rear Cover from the bottom.

Similar deck mechanisms are used with several other models and brand DVD players.  Can use this procedure as a guide to disassemble them too.
HOW TO DISASSEMBLE Mechanism type (DP-12TV)
Main Base
Clamp Assembly Disc
1 Place the Clamp Assembly Disc as Fig. (A)
2 Lift up the Clamp Assembly Disc in direction of arrow(A).
3 Separate the Clamp Assembly Disc from the Holder Clamp.
 Plate Clamp
Turn the Plate Clamp to counterclockwise direction and then lift up the Plate Clamp.
Magnet Clamp
Clamp Upper.
Tray Disc
1 Insert and push a Driver in the emergency eject hole (A) at the right side, or put the Driver on the Lever (B) of the Gear Emergency and pull the Lever (B) in direction of arrow so that the Tray Disc is ejected about 15~20mm.

Pull the Tray Disc until it is separated from the Base Main completely.

Unlock the Locking Tab(L4) in direction of arrow(B) and then separate the Gear Pulley from the Base Main.

2 Push the Locking Tab(L5) down and then lift up the Guide Up/Down to separate it from the Base Main.
Note: When reassembling place the Guide Up/Down as Fig.(C) and move it in direction arrow(B) until it is locked by the Locking Tab(L5). And confirm the Guide Up/Down as Fig.(A)

DVD PLAYER POWER SUPPLY CIRCUITS and TROUBLESHOOTING - VIPer22A - AL1500

Using ICs AL1500 and VIPer22A
No DC voltage present across C6 – Check the AC fuse F1.  Check the rectifier diodes for open or shorted junction.  Check them out from circuit.  Check C3 (0.1UF for short circuited junction).
Check the resistance of terminals 5,6,7,8 and pins to 1, 2 of IC1 VIPer22A for short circuit.  If show very low DC resistance, the IC is shorted and the fuse will blow up.  Before replacing this IC, check all the other components connected with it.  Especially check C7, R3, D6.  If any of these components are damaged or there is any loose solder terminals to these parts, the IC will get shorted.   
If the photo-coupler IC2 is found open or damaged, replace IC3 along with it.
If AC fuse is found open, check the capacitor C8 connected to DC supply ground and the floating ground for short circuit.  It is venerable to damage during lightning.

  The AT24C02B provides 2048 bits of serial electrically erasable and programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) organized as 256 words of 8 bits each. The device is optimized for use in many industrial and commercial applications where low-power and low-voltage operation are essential. The AT24C02B is available in space-saving 8-lead PDIP, 8-lead JEDEC SOIC, 8-lead Ultra-Thin Mini-MAP (MLP 2x3), 5-lead SOT23, 8-lead TSSOP, and 8-ball dBGA2 packages and is accessed via a Two-wire serial interface. In addition, the AT24C02B is available in 1.8V (1.8V to 5.5V) version.
  The W25X16A (16M-bit) Serial Flash memory provide a storage solution for systems with limited space, pins and power. The 25X series offers flexibility and performance well beyond ordinary Serial Flash devices. They are ideal for code download applications as well as storing voice, text and data. The devices operate on a single 2.7V to 3.6V power supply with current consumption as low as 5mA active and 1μA for power-down.  All devices are offered in space-saving packages.  The W25X16A array is organized into 8,192 programmable pages of 256-bytes each. Up to 256 bytes can be programmed at a time using the Page Program instruction. Pages can be erased in groups of 16 (sector erase), groups of 256 (block erase) or the entire chip (chip erase). The  W25X16A has 512 erasable sectors and 32 erasable blocks. The small 4KB sectors allow for greater flexibility in applications that require data and parameter storage. The W25X16A supports the standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), and a high performance dual output SPI using four pins: Serial Clock, Chip Select, Serial Data I/O and Serial Data Out. SPI clock frequencies of up to 100MHz are supported allowing equivalent clock rates of 200MHz when using the Fast Read Dual Output instruction. These transfer rates are comparable to those of 8 and 16-bit Parallel Flash memories.  A Hold pin, Write Protect pin and programmable write protect, with top or bottom array control features, provide further control flexibility.
