SONY Trinitron KVG14Q2 Repair Help FROM MY SERVICE TABLE TODAY
TDA8374A (Chroma)_STR S6707 (SMPS switching)_LA7830 (Vertical Scan Output IC)_ Sharp PQ 09RE 11 (9V controlled voltage regulator IC) _ 2SD1877 (Horizontal Scan Output Transistor)_NX1733/m (FBT/LOT)
Set
received for repair with no picture condition; today.
On
power ON, the standby LED blinks 3 times and then shuts off.
As
the standby LED blinks, at least once time, it is clear that the SMPS section
circuit to this set is working properly.
But,
the main system control micro-computer IC detects something short circuit with
any component/s at the main board.
As
the set is a very old model, the spare part availability will be somewhat
difficult. So; I should take much care with
work; not to damage more components.
I
opened the back cover. A visual
inspection is done for any damaged component/s on-board. Such as bulged/shorted capacitors, damaged
IC/s and such.
I
found that the vertical scan output IC is cracked. I’ve attached the photo of the same here.
Checked
all other main components, which can likely to be faulty; using
multi-meter. Checked the Horizontal
Output Transistor for any leak with its junction The Horizontal Output
Transistor used with this set is D1877.
I did notice, it is the original one fitted by the company. Nobody have replaced it. We can detect this by inspecting its solder
terminals.
Yet,
de-soldered it out from the circuit board, and checked it alone using meter set
to KOhms range. No abnormal measurement
noticed. De-soldered it into place
again. Screwed it on to its heat sink.
De-soldered
out the damaged vertical scan output IC from the circuit board.
Switched
ON the set without it.
The
standby LED lighted up once, then 3 times and OFF, as before.
[With
this set’s circuit, it won’t switch ON properly, or produce EHT or even a
horizontal line will appear on the screen, as other company’s sets will; except the +B voltage
[112VDC] only will be present.
I
did check the +B112VDC. It was OK. No fluctuations. Checked the voltage at the primary winding of the line drive transformer, and at
the collector terminals of the Line Drive Transistor. All found OK.
Switched
OFF the set, and checked all the solder terminals at the solder side of the
PWB, once more; using a magnifying glass.
After
some time, at about 25 minutes, I detected a minute loose solder terminal at
the 9V voltage regulator IC. This IC has
4 solder terminals. It is a controlled
voltage regulator, which in turn controlled by the main microcomputer IC. If the microcomputer IC detect any short
circuit anywhere at the circuit board, it will shut down the control voltage to
this IC; and it will down the 9VDC, which goes to the main chroma oscillator jungle
IC [TDA8374A], and that was happening here.
But
here there were two faults. The loose
solder terminal at the regulator IC said above (IC521 Pin-1). The vertical scan output IC (LA7830) short.
Re-checked
all the solder terminals at the main board to make sure that there are no other
loose solder terminals.
Set
switched on; fed to RF signal [On-Air].
Tuned it. OK.Sunday, March 29, 2015
VIDEOCON 21 inch CTV REPAIR HELP From MY SERVICE TABLE TODAY - Retrace Lines all over the screen
Retrace lines all over the screen _ High brightness _ Audio
OK _ Faint picture
FBT Number to this set is BSC24-01N 4013E
In most cases, there are two
reasons for this retrace lines. The
first one is with a high screen voltage.
In rare cases, the screen-pot meter [built inside the FBT] might be
faulty. If so, there is no repair to
this fault, other than replace the FBT/ [LOT].
The second possibility is reduced
video output stage supply voltage. This
voltage is generated by one among the winding of the FBT. For some sets, it will be from the main SMPS
section itself. This supply voltage may
vary from 280VDC to 290VDC. It will
depend upon the model & circuit of the TV. The most probable reason for a low video
output stage supply voltage is, either the diode that rectifies this voltage at
the FBT winding end is faulty; or the smoothing capacitor used with this DC
supply line has open. The capacitor
used here might be 10MFD to 22MFD; electrolytic type of high voltage rating. Usually it will be 10MFD350VDC.
If this capacitor is open, the DC
voltage will drop considerably, causing a very low voltage at the cathodes of
the CRT gun; which in turn make it high emitting (electron) state, causing a
screen of too high intensity along with vertical retrace lines. The lines will appear across the screen; all
over it, at a space of 1 or 2 inches.
They will be slightly slanted too; in position. I've attached the photograph of the effected TV
screen here.
What I did first is to check the
supply voltage to the video output section [CRT base card]. It was found normal here. And the fault
should be of an abnormal screen voltage.
When I noticed closely to the
screen, there is a very faint picture, but, it was or normal in size. Slightly expanded than normal.
The +B voltage from the SMPS
section should be suspected. I did check
it. According to the schematic, it
should be 108.5VDC at load.
But, here it shows about
117.7VDC. Much more than normal. Adjusted it.
There is a pot-meter on board at the SMPS stage circuit to this set. It can be adjusted. The SMPS of this set is an adjustable type,
not auto.
Ahh: It worked fine. No other adjustments have to do here. Cleaned the inside of the set and circuit
board using hot air blower. My work is over. Delivered after 2 hours check.
AFTER THE ADJUSTMENT
SCREEN POT-METER POSITION Here I haven't adjusted it any more

V GUARD DELUXE50 FIRDGE STABILIZER – Repair Help Fom MY SERVICE TABLE TODAY
V-Guard Fridge Stabilizer Deluxe 50 - Dead - No Input & output LED lights up. No output voltage.
Condition
: Dead. No input or output LED light up.
Used
a pre-programmed IC CTM1273 to control the circuit board PWB.
On
checking, the thermal fuse found damaged.
Replaced the thermal fuse (inserted inside the primary side of the transformer). Power light came alive, but there was no output LED light up; or any output voltage; even after 5 minute duration.
Replaced the thermal fuse (inserted inside the primary side of the transformer). Power light came alive, but there was no output LED light up; or any output voltage; even after 5 minute duration.
Checked
the components on circuit board. The
relay used (on board) HJR-3FF-S-2 was found not working. It's winding was open. Replaced the same; and checked OK.
When
checking this stabilizer, please check the AC fuse [the thermal fuse in the
transformer] first; then the Relay. This fuse can be
replaced. Pull that fuse out (after de-solder its two connections). Insert a new one in place and solder the
terminals as it was. I’ve marked both
the damaged component that I’ve replaced.
Note the photographs attached.
If
the pre-programmed IC said above is found damaged, contact the authorized
service center for V-Guard. There is no
way to get it from open electronic spare part market.

HOW TO CLEAN THE LENS
If there is dust on the lens surface,
the dust should be cleaned away by using an air bush (such as used for camera
lens). The lens is held by a delicate spring. When cleaning the lens surface,
therefore, a cotton swab should be used, taking care not to distort lens.
Never attempt to disassemble the
pick-up.
Spring has excess pressure. If the lens is extremely dirty, apply isopropyl alcohol to the cotton swab. (Do not use any other liquid cleaners, because they will damage the lens.) Take care not to use too much of this alcohol on the swab, and do not allow the alcohol to get inside the pick-up.
