Updates for windows can be downloaded automatically. But there is no update for Win XP-Sp-2. You have to download XP-3 update version; [CD version from Microsoft website], and burn it to a CD. After installing Win Xp-2. Just insert this CD to your ROM, and it will automatically upgrade your present XP-2 to Xp-3. The update process may take 30 to 40 minutes.
When you update the XP-2 Version to XP-3, Be sure that the system is dosconnected from internet. Switch OFF the Modem, if it is external one, or disconnect the LAN cable from the system.

The trick to get automatic update is a crucial. Just Right Click my computer Icon. Click ‘Properties’. Click ‘Automatic Updates’. Check the box “Notify me, but not automatically download or install them”. (Normally automatic update option will be checked). Click apply, and then press OK.

Hereafter comes the play begins.
After some time, within 5 minutes or so, you will see an yellow triangle on the right side of the taskbar of your window, stating that, ‘Updates are available’. Click the icon. Nothing will happen. Updates to your present operating system will start on. You will get a message, after this first update download, to install the downloded software. It is only an “initialization”. Don’t mind this. Let it installed. Let it be installed. Otherwise, the future updates will not be available.
After this, some time later, an icon [yellow triangle one] again will appear on the task bar ,reminds you, ‘Updates are available’. Allow these updates to download .
After downloading these updates, it will ask you to install the downloaded updates. BE CARE at this point. Just look on the table, to which updates are going to be installed. There will be so many boxes, clicked “Checked’. Select the ticked box starting with “ Windows Genuine “. Click on it, and uncheck it [OFF]. Click continue. A box will be now displayed; stats that, you won't get this update downloaded. Click OK. This part of the automatic update should be omitted. The rest of the updates will start ot download. For each time after some download, you will be asked to install the downlaoded software. Do it. Here you have won.
All up-to-date updates will come hereafter. You have to allow them to install. That is all. To get it fully updated till time, will take so may steps of downloads and installations.
