How to Unlock Your TV Parental Control Password

General procedure to unlock most brand televisions

To reset the PIN, you need the TV's original remote and then do this:
Press the remote-control buttons in the following sequence, which resets the pin to 0-0-0-0 : Power Off. >  Mute > 8 > 2 > 4 > Power On.

DirecTV: You have to call DirecTV at 1-800-347-3288 and ask a customer representative to reset the password for you. They will ask you a security question to verify your account.

Dish Network: Call Dish Network customer service at 1-800-823-4929. You will have to verify your account by answering some questions.

Dick Smith Television Master Code: 6666. Go to the “Lock Menu”. Enter in this default password. You should then be able to access your the complete Lock Menu.

Dynex TV

Press the "Menu" button on the remote control.

Select "Settings" using the left and right arrow buttons, and then press the "Down Arrow" button.

Use the arrow buttons to highlight "Parental Controls," and press "Enter" to open the Password screen.

Enter the password using the number buttons. The default password is "0000."

If you forget your password, you can enter "9999" as the old password and then create a new one.

Channel Master DVR: Find the receiver ID number by clicking “Menu” on the remote and then navigating through Setup->System Setup->System Information. Now write down the receiver ID number before the dash. Next, click the “Menu” button on the remote again. Navigate to Setup->Locks. Enter the last 4 digits of your receiver ID before the dash. This will act as a temporary password.

LG Television Master Code: 0-3-2-5. Go to the “Menu” board. Scroll down to “Lock”. Then enter the passcode 0325.

Phillips TV Reset Pass code: The default factory code number is ”0000.” If this code doesn’t work it means it has been changed. To reset the code go to setup and select either the channel blocking or setup code section. Use the master code of 0711. The TV will give you an incorrect access code message. Press 0711again. Now enter your new 4 digit code.

RCA TV Parental Reset Code: First select parental control from the menu. You will be asked to enter your password. Press and hold the “volume +” and “channel +” buttons on your television (not the remote) for 8 seconds. You will see a message that the parental controls have been unlocked.

Sharp TV Reset: Start but pressing the ”menu” button on the TV. A message should appear to input secret number. Press and hold both the “VOL (+)” and the CH DOWN on the TV set until the message disappears. This should reset all passwords and settings.

Sony TV Master Code: 4357. Use this code when prompted and it will reset the master password.

Sony Play station 2 & 3 Master Code: 7444. When it asks for the password press select on the controller. Then enter the master code and then you should be able to set a new lock code.

Toshiba Master Codes:  0711, 6688 and 3308. Try each one until one works. This will reset your Toshiba TV to the orignal settings. However, you will loose any information such as favorite channels, clocks, etc.

Wii Master Code: You have to call customer support 1-800-255-3700. Go to parental controls and there will be an option to change settings, click yes. It should confirmation number, you will need to give this number to customer support, and then they will give you a unlock code.

XBox 360 Reset Password: Go to settings and click on “PARENTAL CONTROL” and instead of entering the code press the following button sequence; X, Y, Left Trigger, X. Then you will be prompted to enter a new password.

Vizio TV Master Unlock Passwords: 2489, 5351, 8202, 8205, 8206

Zenith Master Password Reset : Press SETUP to display the Setup menu. Use the remote and enter the following 6 digit number: 210499. The 4 digit password should be cleared.

1993 Mitsubishi model CK31302 

To bypass the V-chip: You can view the locked shows by pressing the number 9 and QV buttons on the remote at the same time, whenever your passcode is requested. This process temporarily unlocks the TV. To reset the code: When you use the button combination 9 and QV while entering the V-Chip Lock menu, this process deletes your old pass code and prompts you to enter a new pass code. If this does not work for you as you stated, make sure those buttons on the remote are working correctly.

How to Unlock a TV

Most TVs have a parental control lock that can be set to prevent children from watching specific television shows. In order to activate or deactivate the controls, you need to know the four digit security code or parental lock control password. If you forget the number you chose or if the lock gets set accidentally, it is still possible to unlock the TV.

STEP 1

Turn on the TV and grab the remote. In most cases, you will need the original remote to unlock the TV if you aren't sure of the unlock code. If you don't have the original remote, you will need to purchase one.

STEP 2

Look at the screen. If you see a blank screen with a red key on the bottom of the screen, press 'Function' and 'Mute' at the same time. This should unlock the channel. This is an option for people who want the TV to stay locked but, want to be able to bypass the lock to watch a certain show or channel. All other channels will remain locked and the TV will fully lock when it is turned off.

STEP 3

Unlock all of the channels on the TV by entering the factory reset code. There are three main reset codes that TV manufacturers set. These are 0711, 6688 and 3308. Try each one until you find the one that works. This will reset the TV to original factory settings. When you do this, you will loose any information that you have stored in the TV, such as favorite channels, automatic timers and the clock. You will have to go through the full initial set up.

STEP 4

Call the technical support service number in your owner's manual if none of those codes work. A technician can help you troubleshoot the television because the problem may not be the locking control. When you call, make sure that you have the model number and serial number of the TV.

STEP 5

Take your television to a TV repair shop. In some cases, a professional who access to wiring diagrams for your television set may have to rewire certain components in order for the television to unlock. This is usually the case when the TV locks by itself while it is on.

How to Unlock a TV without a Remote

STEP 1

Read the manual. Televisions are accompanied by manuals when new. Some contain information on operating the television without the remote. Search for the "Lock" or "Privacy" section in the manual. If applicable, follow the given instructions.

STEP 2

Reset the television. You can reset and eliminate the lock on some televisions without the remote, using a few tactics. Hold the power button for five seconds. The television will automatically restart. If the lock is still on, unplug the television and remove the battery from the back panel of the television. Wait several hours before reconnecting the plug and reattaching the battery.

STEP 3

Purchase a universal remote. If the manual or resetting option does not work for your television, you need a universal remote. You can get one of these in electronics stores or online. The universal remote supports most televisions. The universal remote manual is included in the purchase and will instruct you on installing it into the television. After installation, enter the lock code using the universal remote.

If one or a few channels are locked

Press the button on the remote control to access the home menu.

How to Unlock a TV [DTV]

Sometimes you may find that your DTV channels are locked by padlocks, which makes it impossible to watch these channels. Why it happens? After connecting a DTV box to an analog TV set or setting up a digital TV, if you fail to program the DTV box or digital TV to pick up the local TV channels, you will find you are not receiving all or some DTV channels that come with padlocks.  In fact, these DTV channels are not really locked. How to Unlock a TV channel in this case? Read this instruction, everything will be simple.

Connect a DTV Box to an Analog TV

1: Keep the coaxial cable wire attached connected to the TV antenna to the DTV box’s RF In nodule which is labeled as “Ant.In”.

2: Screw one end of the coaxial cable wire to the RF Out nodule of the DTV box, and then connect the other end to the RF In nodule on the back of TV.

3: Insert the power cord of DTV box to the DC power jack which is located on the back of DTV box. Then plug the orther end of the cord into a wall outlet.

4: Turn on the television. Switch on the DTV box and set the TV to channel 3.

5: Press “Menu” in the DTV remote control at the DTV box.

6: Browse to find the “Channel Scan” menu option by using the arrow buttons on the remote control, highlight and select it to initiate a channel scan. Some DTV remote controls may have a “Channel Scan” button, which enables you to press this button directly.

7: Never stop till the channel scan completes. During the channel scanning process, a meter bar on the TV monitor will show the current channel scanning completion percentage.

8: Flip through the channels received by the DTV tuner or receiver by pressing the Channel Up or Channel Down buttons on the remote control Reposition the TV antenna and try performing the channel scan again like shown in Step 2 and Step 3 if any local TV channels missing.

Unlock Locked DTV Channels on Digital TV

9: Turn on the TV at first.

10: Press the “Menu” button on the remote control.

11: Just like showing in Step 6, use the arrow buttons on the TV remote control to browse the menu options in order to find out the “Channel Scan” button. Highlight the “Channel Scan” button and select it to get started a channel scan immediately.

12: Follow the instructions in Step 3 and Step 4 to unlock the DTV channels with padlock on Digital TV.

After repositioning the TV antenna and performing another channel scan according to steps above, if the local TV stations are still missing, try either of the following will be helpful: invest a higher quality indoor TV antenna, or change to an outdoor TV antenna to retry. If you have successfully got channels with Analog TV, but fail to pick up any local TV channel now, it seems to be a poor reception issue rather than a locked channel problem. Poor reception with analog TV usually causes a static-filled picture, while with digital TV, it usually results in no picture at all. Only when you fix the reception issue, you are able to pick up the missing channels using channel scan.

How do I reset LG TV to factory settings

Press the Home button on your remote, and select the cog icon in the top-right corner of your screen to open then Settings menu.

Next, head to General > Reset to Initial Settings. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the reset.

Hidden Secret Service Menu Codes for Sony, Samsung, LG and Philips TV

All digital TVs contain a secret service menu/mode which allows you to change various internal settings such as picture height, width, position, colors, blue back screen, etc. This secret service menu also allows you to enable or disable lots of features in your television set. Basically this service menu is used by TV mechanics.

1: Please note down the default values before changing them, so that you can restore them in future if something goes wrong or you don't like the output.

2: Be very careful while playing with these service menus. Better to make changes and check their effects first. Don't save the changes immediately. If something goes wrong, just switch off the TV and switch on it again, it'll restore default settings.

Service Menu Code For Sony TV:

First power off your TV using the remote, then press following buttons quickly on your TV remote:

Display (or i+) + 5 + Volume Up + Power

It'll show the hidden service menu on your TV screen.

Once you enter into service menu, you can press Menu (or Options) button again on your remote to switch between various service modes such as Digital, Chassis and VPC.

To navigate between available options press 1 or 4 buttons. To change or modify their values press 3 or 6 buttons.

To save your changes, just press Mute + 0 (or Enter) buttons on the remote.

To restore settings to factory defaults, press 8 + 0 (or Enter) buttons.

PS: For some new models the above mentioned method might not work. You can try following key sequence to access service menu in those new models:

While TV is on, press Left + Right + Mute + Center button + Mute + Menu buttons.

NOTE: You can also press Display (or i+) + 5 + Volume Down + Power buttons on your remote to enter in Self Check mode. This mode shows the total usage hours of your Sony TV set.

Service Menu Code For Samsung TV:

Service Menu Code For LG TV:

For some TV models, you might need to press "Menu" buttons on remote and TV panel simultaneously for a few seconds to access the service menu. In a few TV models, both methods work and they open different service menus.

If the service menu asks for a password, enter 0000 (four zero). If 0000 doesn't work for you, try 7777 or 0413 or 8741 or 8743 or 8878.

Now you can make changes to your desired settings.

To save the changes press <OK> button on the remote.

Manually Updating LG TV Firmware Offline:

If you want to update your LG TV firmware/software, you can follow following simple steps:

1. First of all you'll need to download the required firmware files from official LG TV website. Just go to LG TV website and search for your TV model. You'll find the firmware files (*.epk) on your TV model page. Download it and save on your computer.

2. Now attach a USB drive in your computer and create a new folder LG_DTV in USB drive.

3. Copy the .epk file in LG_DTV folder.

4. Now insert the USB drive in your LG TV and do as following:

Press Home/Menu button on your TV remote, it'll open the Settings screen. Move the cursor to OPTION but don't press OK button. Now press 7 number button 7 times on the remote and it'll open the firmware update screen.

If pressing 7 number button 7 times doesn't work for you. Press Fav button 7 times.

To restore default firmware, follow the same instructions but press 9 number button 7 times.

Manually Updating Sony TV Firmware Offline:

If you want to update your Sony TV firmware/software, following steps will help you:

1. First of all download the latest firmware files for your Sony TV model from Sony website. Just go to Sony TV website and search for your TV model. You'll find the firmware files on your TV model page. Download it and save on your computer.

2. Now extract the downloaded ZIP file using  any file archive utility and you'll get the folder containing the update .BIN file.

3. Attach a USB drive to your computer and copy the update folder to USB drive.
