HOW TO ENTER SERVICE MODE TO PHILIPS 30 PW8402 AND MAKE ADJUSTMENTS

Part-1


TO ENTER SERVICE MODE

  • Via standard remote control:  Key in the code[062596] directly followed by "Status" button.
  • After entering this mode, "SAM' will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. 
CONTENTS OF SERVICE MODE
  1. HRS:  Displays the accumulated total of operation hours in a hexadecimal value.  This do not include the standby hours.  Every time the set is switched ON by the AC power switch or remote control, the timer is increased by [0.5].
  2. SW ID:  Displays the date of the software and version of ROM.  For example:- (A02UB1-1.00 = AAABBC-X.YY)
  • AAA: Chassis Name.
  • BB:  Region and/or function name. [E=Europe; A=Asia Pacific; U=NAFTA; L=LATAM; B=Basic; T=Top; P=PAL; N=NTSC; S=Stereo; M=Mono].
  • C: Language cluster number.
  • X.Y:  The software version, where X is the main version number.
  • ERR:  The most recent error is displayed at the upper left.
  • OPTIONS: Extra feature for service to set the option codes.
  • CLEAR ERRORS: When press OK button, the error buffer is reset.
  • AKB: Diable [Off] or enable [On]the Black Current Loop (AKB=Auto Kin Bias) for Vg2 adjustment.
  • TUNER: Will activate tuner alignment sub menu.
  • WHITE TONE: Will activate the white tone sub menu.
  • GEOMETRY: Will activate the geometry alignment sub menu.
  • SOUND: Will activate sound alignment sub menu.
  • SMART SETTINGS:  Will activate Smart Settings alignment sub menu
  • STORE:  Will save the new settings.
  • EEPROM TEST: Will report if the SW checksum is OK.  Convenient after SW upgrading.
  • VID RAM TEST:  Will check the continuity of the address bus and data bus of the VIDEO RAM.
  • VG2:  This feature is not implemented yet.
HOW TO NAVIGATE
  1. In SAM, can select the menu items with Cursor Up/Dn keys on the remote control.  The selected item will be highlighted.  When all menu items fit on the screen, move the Cursor Up/Dn key to display the next or previous item.
  2. With Cursor Left and Right keys:
  • Activate or deactivate the selected menu item.
  • Change the data value to selected menu item.
  • Activate the selected sub-menu.
When menu button is pressed, the set will toggle between the SAM and Normal user menu; with SAM mode still active in the background.

TO EXIT FROM SAM


Use one of the following methods.

  1. Switch the set to Standby with remote control.  The error buffer is erased.
  2. Via standard remote control, key in '00'- sequence.  The error buffer is not erased.
CUSTOMER SERVICE MODE [CSM]

When customer having problems with the set, he can call his dealer, of Philips Service Help Desk. The service technician can then ask the customer to activate the CSM in order to identify the status of the set.  Now, he can judge the severity of the complaint.  In many cases, he can advice the customer how to solve the problem, or he can decide if it is necessary to visit the customer.  CSM is a READ ONLY mode, and no modifications can be done by this mode.

HOW TO ENTER CSM

Key in the code [123654] by remote control.  The set must be in wide screen mode.  Use picture size option by remote control to set this mode.
  • Activation of CSM is only possible if there is no user menu on screen.  
  • During CSM, sound volume is automatically set to 25% of the scale, Smart Sound is set to Theater mode, Smart Picture is set to Rich/Movies mode temporarly to ensure a good picture and sound of the working set.  After leaving CSM, the original settings are restored.
HOW TO NAVIGATE

By means of Cursor Up/Dn keys on the remote control handset, you can navigate through menus. 

HOW TO EXIT CSM
  • After press a key on the remote control, , with exception of the 'Channel, Volume and digit [0 to 9] keys or 
  • After switch the TV set OFF with AC power switch at the front panel of the TV set.
  • After 15 minutes No remote control or Local Keyboard actions.
