Dust spots will normally show up as diffused circles. Something will appear as white, however if viewed up close can notice one of the primary colors within the spot or around the edges of the spot.
Optical Assembly Cleaning Procedure.
With the optical assembly removed from the set, remove [2] screws from the top plastic shield.
Remove the [4] screws from the plastic shield, which is below the shield removed previously.
Carefully lift the brown tabs that holds the ribbon cables in place. With the brown tabs in up position remove the ribbon cables by pulling them slowly straight out.
Once the three ribbon cables removed, remove the prism and lens assembly. There are [8] fixing screws.
Hold the lens assy' by the front and pull it slowly out, making sure to guide the ribbon cables under the plastic bar.
Now carefully clean off the LCD panels. Use filtered air and a soft brush to remove the dust. Never touch any optical part by hand. Doing so, will leave a mark. Be sure to clean both sides of the panels and the opening in which the prism block was removed from. Do not take this module any farther apart. Do this work in an AC room. Do not adjust the screws holding the panels. Only remove screws sated above for taking out the optical part out. There are so many screws/hex nuts that holding the panels in place. Never touch them by no way.
Reassemble the optical assembly and re install it. Make sure the LVDS cables are connected and dressed properly as shown here. Do the work with patience. Don't be hurry. Understand that you are working with the 'Heart' part of your PTV. Take care.
