HOW TO REMOVE AND REPLACE CLUTCH COVER - DISPLAY - TO APPLE MacBook-Pro


TOOLS
  • #0 Phillips screwdriver (magnetized)
  • Torx T6 screwdriver (magnetized)
  • Black stick (nylon probe 922-5065) (or other non-conductive nylon or plastic flat-blade tool
  • Kapton tape (922-1731 (0.5-inch x 12-yard roll))
Before you begin, remove the following:
  1. Battery
  2. Top case
  3. Display assembly
  4. Display rear housing
  5. Inverter board
PART LOCATION
  • Note the desired orientation of the cables coming out of both sides of the clutch cover.
  • Disconnect the LVDS cable at the top of the display panel.
  • Peel back tape securing the LVDS cable to the display panel at the clutch cover and pull back the cable to gain access to the clutch cover screw behind it.
  • Peel up the antenna assembly tabs from the display panel to gain access to the clutch cover screws behind them.
  • Remove the seven phillips #0 screws along the back side of the clutch cover. Note the location of the three black screws.
  • Grab the clutch cover at one end and carefully slide it straight down, slightly, away from the clutch. Do not remove the cover. Note the cable routing.
  • Grab the clutch cover at the other end and carefully slide it straight down, note the cable routing as you remove the cover, being careful not to catch any wires.
REPLACEMENT
  • Route cables over clutches as shown, below.
  • Slide the clutch cover over the clutches, capturing the cables, without pinching. Verify that the ends are flush with the cosmetic end caps. Use a black stick if necessary to guide the ends of the clutch cover over the end caps.
  • Secure the ground loop on the right inverter cable with a black screw.
  • Install a black screw into the left hole of the LVDS cable plate.
  • Capture the LVDS cable grounding tab with a black screw in the right hole.
  • Install the remaining screws to secure the clutch cover. Secure the camera cable, LVDS cable (top and bottom) and inverter cable with Kapton tape.
  • Warning: Do not install tape on the back of the display panel, or damage can result.
  • Fold down the antenna assembly tabs and secure with Kapton tape.
