HOW TO REMOVE AND REPLACE OPTICAL DRIVE TO APPLE MacBook Pro


TOOLS
  • #0 Phillips screwdriver (magnetized)
  • Torx T6 screwdriver (magnetized)
  • Black stick (nylon probe 922-5065) (or other non-conductive nylon or plastic flat-blade tool Kapton tape.
Before you begin, remote:
  1. Battery.
  2. Top case.
PART LOCATION
  • Carefully peel off any Kapton tape, and then disconnect the flex connector.
  • Remove three screws and lift out the drive.
  • Transfer three brackets, including one EMI gasket, and flex cable to the replacement drive.
REPLACEMENT
  • Verify that the EMI gasket is installed on the bottom case in the back of the drive bay.
  • Important: The optical drive must be installed so that it does not sit on top of the gasket. Insert the drive toward the logic board so that the gasket is pushed behind the drive.
  • Carefully reconnect the flex cable connector to the logic board. Make sure that it is fully seated and flat.
  • Apply new Kapton tape to secure the connector in place.
