PANASONIC - DVD PLAYER - SERVICE HELP

SELF DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION & SERVICE MODE

  • The optical pickupself diagnosis function and tilt adjustment check function have been included to this unit.  When repairing, use the following procedure for effective self diagnosis  and tilt adjustment.  Be sure to use self diagnosis function, before replacing the optical pickup, when 'NO DISC' is displayed.  As a guideline you should replace the optical pickup when the value of the Laser drive current is more than (55).
Press the Power button to turn ON the Power, and check the value within three minutes before the unit warms up.  Otherwise the result will be incorrect.

OPTICAL PICKUP SELF-DIAGNOSIS FUNCTION
  • With No Disc in the player, 
    • Press 'Display' button on the remote control, while pressing the 'Pause & Open/Close' buttons on the player.[DVD]
    • Press display button on the remote control unit while pressing 'Pause & FWD-SKIP' buttons on the player [CD]
    • Press FL Select key on the remote control to change the FL display for 'Display-1 or Display-2'
  • Display content.
  • Ldd/ 000 000 [DVD] [Display-1/Display-2] {The first group represent Factory setting, and the second represents Present Value.
  • Ldc/ 000 000 [CD] [ Display-1/Display-2]
  • {The first group represent Factory setting, and the second; present value.
  • Replace with new optical pickup if present value is more than [60 for DVD] and [45 for CD].
OPTICAL PICKUP TILT ADJUSTMENT
  1. While pressing 'Pause' and 'Open/Close' buttons on the main unit, press "5" on the remote control.
  2. Confirm that "J_xxx/yyy_zz is shown on the front display. "yyy" and "zz" shown to the right have nothing to do with jitter value.   "yyy' is the error counter and "zz" is the focus drive value.  Jitter value appears on the front display.
  3. Play a test disc [T01].
  4. Adjust the tangential adjustment screw-1, so that the jitter value is minimized.  
  5. Play test dics [T43].
  6. Adjust the tilt adjustment screw-2, so that the jitter value is minimized. 
  7. Repeat adjusting the tilt adjustment screws 1 & 2 alternately until the jitter value is minimized.
Make tangential adjustment first.  Then make tilt adjustment.  Repeat adjusting two or three times to find the optimum point.
